BCB proposes Aminul to become coach of Under-19 or HP team

Sports Reporter

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) director and its cricket operation committee chairman Akram Khan expressed his surprise to see the news on media, where Bulbul said he did not get any proposal from the board.

But Akram claimed that they verbally proposed Aminul Islam Bulbul to take up the charge of Under-19 or High Performance. He can take up the charge of any of them if he agrees.

“It’s true that we didn’t propose or inform him officially but we verbally proposed him to be coach for the Under-19 Team or HP team,” said Akram Khan.

Citing the instance of Indian distinguished batsman Rahul Dravid, who took up the charge of their Under-19 Cricket Team after being retired from international cricket and succeeded in his stint as the youth team lifted U-19 World Cup title this year after missing the 2016 title in Dhaka, Akram said that Bulbul can start his coaching career with Under-19 or High Performance as he has no coaching experience to handle a national team.

BCB has been searching coaches for these two teams since many days. They will soon appoint coaches for the teams after the much-needed appointment of the national team head coach.

Following Chandika Hathurusingha’s abrupt resignation from the head coach of the Bangladesh in October-November 2017, the board has been looking desperately for a coach to fill up the shoes of the Chandika. But they took a slow-go policy not to get quality coach for the team though West Indies coach Phil Simmons and English coach Richard Pybus came here in Dhaka to discuss with the board to be the next head coach of the Tigers.

The board did not go ahead their discussion with any of them. Therefore, Bangladesh played three back-to-back series without the head coach they run those series on the back of the Richard Halsall and Courtney Walsh.

“I don’t know why Bulbul defies it. We’re surprise why he does not know it,” the  former captain said.

“We’ve U-19 and HP team, where he could work if he agrees to work here. The door is open to him. For this he has to express his desire to the board,” he also said.

“BCB is searching coaches for the Under-19 and High Performance (HP) teams. Our main planning is to appoint a coach and trainer for U-19 team. We’re giving importance on appointing them on these places. After the appointment of the head coach for the national team, they will start appointing the coach and trainer for the Under-19 team,” he added.

Akram also said that they will appoint a head coach for the national team very soon. Our BCB president Nazmul Hassan and CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury are looking into the issue of the head coach. Hopefully the matter will soon be resolved.

The cricket operation chairman said that Bangladesh A team will play three series this year.

“Bangladesh A team has three tours ahead. Sri land will come here to play a series against us (June). Bangladesh A will tour to Ireland and then West Indies A will tour to Bangladesh,” he informed.

“The date and schedule of these tours are yet to fix. Hopefully those will soon be finalized,” he stated.

When asked about Bangladesh tour to Australia, Akram said that the series will not be held this year.

“Bangladesh tour to Australia will not be held this year. It’ll be held in the next year. They’ll find out a slot for this series,” the BCB director responded.

“Cricket West Indies Board (CWI) is trying to arrange a T20 tri-series with the involvement of Bangladesh, West Indies and Pakistan. It’s not under our jurisdiction.”
