Shakib returns to practice

Shakib returns to practice
Shakib Al Hasan

Bangladesh iconic all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan on Sunday started practicing with the bat and ball just one day after his return home from Australia after taking his last injection from Melbourne hand specialist David Hoy.

During the innings break of the Dhaka Premier League (DPL) match between Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club and Khelaghar Samaj Kallyan Samity at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur, Shakib did batting practice for a while.

The 30-year-old Shakib therefore went to Mirpur Indoor Stadium, where he practiced with the help of the bowling machine. Then he took up his ball and bowled by pressuring on his finger.

Though he started his practice with bat and ball, he needed for 10-12 more days for his match fitness as Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) chief physician Dr Debashis Chowdhury said.

“Shakib had an appointment with Melbourne hand specialist Dr David Hoy on March 9. After scrutinizing all the tests and current state of his injury, Dr Hoy decided that there is no need to make any intervention at this moment,” said Dr Debashis Chowdhury.

“He pushed an injection, which will be effective at slow pace. If it could be effective he will then be returned to the sporting activities within the next seven days,” Chowdhury told journalists.

“The pain on his finger is mostly better. The progress is positive. If this condition is going on hopefully he could be returned to sporting activities within the mentioned timeframe,” he added.

The left-handed all-rounder, who had received niggles on his left little finger on the stroke of the final of the last ODI Tri-series, has been struggling for regaining his fitness after missing out of the Test and T20 series against Sri Lanka at home turf along with the ongoing Nidahas T20 Tri-series in Sri Lanka.

This BCB physician said that they are attempting to first bring him back in sporting fitness.

“There is an obvious difference between returning to sporting activities and match fitness. It’s needed to give some more times for the match fitness because a psychological matter is related to it,” the physician viewed.

But he thinks that Shakib has to take his own decision for playing games after the end of the predicted period of seven to 10 days.

This time they will try to work for him so they he could bring back his sporting fitness.

Shakib, who is Test and T20 captain for Bangladesh Team, joined the team in Sri Lanka from Australia via Thailand and remained there for two days before flying to Australia again on March 8.
