UNB

Three suspected robbers were killed in different gunfights with members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) members in Sitakundu upazila and Narayanganj district yesterday, reports UNB. A suspected robber was killed in a reported gunfight with RAB members in Jangal Salimpur of Sitakundu upazila, while the two other suspected robbers, including a ring leader of a robber gang, were killed in Alirtek area of Fatulla upazila in Narayanganj district.

The deceased in Sitakundu was identified as Kalu, 42, an accused in seven cases with different police stations of the district. Mimtanur Rahman, senior assistant director of Rab-7, said that the members of elite force arrested Kalu on Sunday night. Later, they conducted drive along with Kalu in the remote area and sensing their presence, Kalu's cohorts opened fire on RAB men, prompting them to retaliate, triggering the gunfight which left Kalu dead on the spot, said the Rab official.

Meanwhile, the deceased in Narayanganj were identified as Zillur, a ringleader of notorious gang 'Zillur Bahini' and Jony.

A team of RAB-11 arrested Zillur two days back, said a Rab source and after gleaning information from him, a team of Rab led by Major Ashiq, deputy commanding officer, conducted a drive in the area around 3:40am.

Sensing the presence of RAB members, the robbers opened fire on them that prompted the RAB men to retaliate, triggering the gunfight.

Two bodies were recovered from the spot after the gunfight. The elite force also recovered a foreign pistol, a bullet, a cartridge, five-rounds of bullets of shotgun.
