Publishers accord reception to Professor Anisuzzaman

Emeritus Professor Anisuzzaman was accorded a reception marking the 81st birth anniversary of this educationist at the main auditorium of Bangladesh National Museum on Saturday, reports UNB.

Bangladesh Knowledge and Creative Publisher Association (BKCPA) and Bangladesh Book Publishers and Sellers Association (BBPSA) jointly organised the reception.

He was born on February 18 in 1937.  Professor Anisuzzaman said it was an opportunity for him to play due role in important junctures of national history over the decades.

He said, “I consider myself basically a teacher. The joy and dignity that I received in teaching have filled my life.”

He sought more cooperation, affection and love from people so that he can well utilize the time in the rest of his life.

Highlighting Prof Anisuzzaman’s contribution to literature, language movement, Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith said, “There is no question that he is the lighthouse of literature. But at the same time, he is the lighthouse of conscience too. That seems of more significance, more valuable.”

Greeting him with flowers on behalf of the Bangla Academy, its Director General Shamsuzzaman Khan urged the government to recognize Prof Anisuzzaman as a ‘National Professor’ immediately.

Handing over a book of Patua Nazir Hossain’s best works compilation, president of the trustee board of the National Museum Hashem Khan said Anisuzzaman played great role after the assassination of Bangabandhu and killing of four national leaders.

Writer Selina Hossain, and a former caretaker government advisor Rasheda K Chowdhury also spoke, among others, with Prof Syed Manjurul Islam presiding over the event.
