Mohammedan Sporting Club and defending champions Gazi Group Cricketers kept their super six hopes alive after registering their fourth victory in the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League yesterday at different venues across the city.

Mohammedan with nine points in nine matches are in the fifth position of the table while Gazi Group had eight points after playing the same number of matches. Four other teams had eight matches with Gazi remaining in the ninth position for the time being but such was the scenario in the point table specially for the sixth spot that anyone could make room in the top six at any time.

However after a series of defeats, Mohammedan finally entered into the groove with a 38-run victory over Shinepukur Sporting Club at Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium in Fatullah. Four batsman hit fifty plus knock but none of them could convert it to a century, helping Mohammedan rack up a gigantic 306 for six in 50 overs. In pursuit of a big chase, Shinepukuur were wrapped up for 268 in 48.1 overs.

Rony Talukdar was the highest scorer for Mohammedan with 73 ball-77, clattering five fours and four sixes. As he laid the platform Shamsur Rahman Shuvo and Raiqbul Hassan played a knock of 60 and 55 runs respectively to keep up the flow. Saeed Sarkar then hammered a whirlwind 25 ball-58 not out with two fours and five sixes to help the side propel past 300.

Mohammad Azim snapped up four for 45 to help Mohammedan chase the target as Shinepukur often showed a glimpse of ability to gun the total down. Mohammad Saifuddin who earlier took three wickets for 55, made 68 while Shuvagata Hom scored 52.

Opener Jahurul Islam Omee hit 113 ball-103 before retiring hurt as Gazi Group secured a comprehensive seven-wicket win over Prime Bank at BKSP ground.

Yousuf Pathan smashed a fluent 60 ball-72 not out, slamming four fours and as many sixes as Prime Bank compiled 257 for nine. However Omee’s century made it a cakewalk for Gazi Group as they chased the target down with seven balls to spare.
