Myanmar authorities have planned to open a floating market in Inle, a fresh water lake located in Nyaungshwe township, Shan state in November, official Global New Light of Myanmar reported Saturday, reports Xinhua.
Under the management of the Hotels and Tourism Ministry, the planned Inle floating market will be developed to promote tourism and create job opportunities for local people.
Meanwhile, the ministry has issued licenses to 70 tour companies, 386 tour guides and 934 local tour guides so far.
The ministry has been exerting efforts to create new tourist destinations and promote the country's tourism market.
It is also striving to promote eco-tourism, cultural tourism and community-based
tourism in resource-rich areas – historical landscapes, rivers, lakes, beaches, islands and forests.
Floating markets are markets where goods are sold from boats. They are mostly found in Southeastern countries including Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam and Myanmar.
