Cattle trader stabbed dead

KURIGRAM: A cattle trader was stabbed to death at Dharmapur village in Rowmari upazila early yesterday, reports UNB.

The deceased was identified as Abdul Mannan, 40, son of late Jalil, a resident of the same village in the upazila.

Family sources said three people- Sifat, Mukul and Dulal-called Mannan out of the house around 1am. Later they fled away leaving the blood-stained body of Mannan in the house. Jamalpur BGB-35 commander Lt Col Mohiuddin said Manna’s body was found in a house 400 meters off barbed fence along the border.

He might have been stabbed to death with a sharp weapon, he said. Rowmari Police Station Sub Inspector Rana said police were sent to recover the body.

Youth hacked dead, 1 held

SHERPUR: A youth was hacked to death over a love affair related dispute at Gomra village in Jhinaigati upazila early yesterday, reports UNB.

Quoting locals, police said Chan Miah, 23, son of Hasmat Ali, a resident of Gomra village in the upazila and an honours third year student of Shafiuddin Ahmed Degree College, had a love affair with a girl, 17, of the same village for long.

On Friday night, the family members of the girl, a first year student of Jhinaigati Adarsha Mohabidyaloy, locked into an altercation with Chan Miah when he went to their house with the girl.

Being informed, mother of Chan Miah rushed to the spot only to see her son lying in a pool of blood. Later, he was taken to Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared him dead, said sub-inspector Kamal Hossian of Jhinaigati Police Station.

Later, police sent the body to a hospital morgue for autopsy and detained Reaz, brother of the girl, for interrogation.During interrogation, he confessed to his involvement in the murder, the SI added.

Minor boy burnt alive

CHAPAINAWABGANJ: A minor boy was burnt to death in a fire at Hathatpara village in Shibganj upazila on Friday night, reports UNB.

The deceased was identified as Nabi, 9, son of Sumon Ali of the village. Officer-in-charge of Shibganj Police Station Habibul Islam said the fire originated from mosquito-repellent incense at Ezabul Haq’s cowshed of the village around 11pm. Nabi, grandson of Ezabul Haq, who asleep there was burnt to death. Later, locals put out the fire.

3-day science fair begins

MANIKGANJ: A three-day Science Fair began on the Manikganj Government High School play ground on Friday aimed at making the students interested in innovation of new technologies, reports BSS.

State Minister for Health and Family Welfare Zahid Maleque inaugurated the fair organised by district administration on the occasion of 39th National Science and Technology Week-2018 as the chief guest. Deputy Commissioner Md Nazmus Sadat Salim presided over the function.

Speaking on the occasion, Maleque said the country has achieved tremendous success in the digitization process for reaching services at people’s door steps in a hassle free manner.  

He said people are getting digital services like e-governance, e-education, e-agriculture, e-health, and other services easily which accelerates the uplift activities of the country. Around 100 stalls were set up in the fair displaying the innovative works by different school and college’s students here. The fair will end on March 11.

1 held with 813 bottles phensidyl

CHAPAINAWABGANJ:  Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-5 arrested an alleged drug peddler with 813 bottles of phensidyl from a filling station under Shibganj upazila of the district early yesterday.

The arrestee was identified as Md Belal Hossain, 22, of Bajitpur Purbopara village under Nawabganj upazila in Dinajpur district. RAB sources said acting on secret information, an operation team of RAB-5 from Chapainawabganj camp raided M/S Sumon Filling Station at Kansat

Gopalnagar square around 12:15am and detained a covered van. After searching the covered van RAB found the bottles of phensidyl and arrested Belal. Later, he was handed over to the police of Shibganj Thana with a case.
