Overall food production goes up due to govt’s measures: Mannan

BSS

SYLHET: Bangladesh has been able to attain sufficiency in food production as the overall agricultural production has been increased mainly due to the government’s agricultural friendly measures, said state minister for finance and planning MA Mannan, reports BSS.

“We have been able to attain autarky in food production despite adverse weather condition and different natural disasters because the government has ensured timely supply of agricultural inputs,” said Mannan while speaking at the reunion function of ex-students of Agriculture Training Institute (ATI) in the city yesterday.

Diploma agriculturists have been playing important role in making the country self-sufficient in food production, he said, adding that the government has been working to ensure the use of modern technology in agriculture.

He said the present government has ensured availability of power at rural areas to support irrigation. It is also providing subsidy on fertilizer and seed, he added.

About various demands of diploma agriculturists, the state minister assured them of taking steps to upgrade their pay scale as per the Prime Minister’s assurance.

Former Bangladesh permanent representative to the UN and ambassador Dr AK Momen attended the function as special guest.

ATI principal Abdur Razzak, Sylhet Sadar Upazila chairman Ashfaque Ahmad, ATI’s chief trainer Sarwarul Ahsan and Dr Md Saiful Islam, among others, spoke at the function.
