Nurture cultural activities along with studies: Noor

BSS

RANGPUR: Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor has called upon the guardians to inspire their children in nurturing cultural activities side by side with studies to become enlightened  citizens with human qualities, reports BSS.

"We need good people with excellent human qualities through bringing up our children providing them with opportunity for nurturing cultural, sports and other extracurricular activities to flourish their talents properly as per their interests," he said.

The minister said this while addressing the inaugural ceremony of the 'Three-day Abbasuddin International Bhaoyaiya Festival-2018' held on the Public Library ground on Thursday night as the chief guest.

The Festival Observance Committee is arranging the event under patronisation of the Ministry of Cultural Affairs with assistance of the 'Bhaoyaiya Sangshad Dhaka'.

Popular Bhaoyaiya artists of Dhaka and nine northern districts of Bangladesh, Kolkata, Alipurduar, Jalpaiguri and Cooch Behar districts of West Bengal and Assam in India are taking part in the festival.

Asaduzzaman Noor expressed concern over the situation that has made our children mechanised with huge books in bags since going to schools in the morning, then private tuitions, reading books, homework and enjoying television as daily routine.

"Our children have no opportunity to see flying birds, singing songs, writing poems, drawing the nature and no grounds for playing to flourish their inherent talents," he said naming dozens of reputed scientists, poets, writers, sports-persons, politicians and successful people who never had academic excellence.

He called upon every conscious citizen to free our children from the cage and not to make them understood that getting GPA-5 is the only goal and suggested for bringing them up ensuring human qualities for building a better and enlightened society.

The minister suggested regional cultural organisations for taking local initiatives in arranging cultural programmes and assured them of extending assistance by the Ministry of Cultural Affairs toward the direction.

Recalling tremendous contribution of Abbasuddin to flourishing Bhaoyaiya songs in this region, Noor called for preserving cultural heritages of the past and move ahead with newer innovations in cultural arena for building a human Bangladesh.

With president of the 'Bhaoyaiya Sangshad Dhaka' Nadira begum in the chair, chairman of the parliamentary standing committee on the Ministry of Home Affairs Tipu Munshi MP, advocate Hosne Ara Lutfa Dalia MP, mayor of Rangpur Mostafizar Rahman Mostafa, Bhaoyaiya artist and researcher Mostafa Zaman Abbasi, convener of the Festival Observance Committee Siraj Uddin, its joint convener Biplob Prashad, among others, addressed the occasion.
