RU accords reception to freshers

RAJSHAHI : The authorities of Rajshahi University (RU) on Tuesday accorded reception to the freshers, first year students of 2017-2018 academic session amid much enthusiasm and festivity.

RU Vice-chancellor Prof M Abdus Sobhan addressed the reception programme held at Kazi Nazrul Islam auditorium as the chief guest while Pro Vice-chancellor Prof Ananda Kumar Saha was in the chair.

Student's adviser Prof Zannatul Ferdous delivered welcomed speech at the beginning of the programme while Registrar Prof MA Bari moderated it.

Among others, public relation office administrator Prof Provash Kumar Karmakar, Proctor Prof Lutfor Rahman and Treasurer Prof AKM Mustafizur Rahman were present at the programme.

Creative writing course held at ULAB

The Department of English and Humanities at ULAB wrapped up a six-week Creative Writing Certificate Course, the first of its kind in the country.

Focused on different genres and editing, the workshop based course was facilitated by renowned writers and literary figures of the country.  

Dr Kazi Anis Ahmed inaugurated the workshop with an introduction on creative writing. The course was launched on January 26.

Dr Syed Manzoorul Islam, winner of this year’s Ehushey Padak, acclaimed poet Dr Kaiser Haq, writer Dr Fakrul Alam and the English Department head Dr Shamsad Mortuza, were present, among the facilitators.

On March 2, Prof  Niaz Zaman and Arifa Ghani Rahman concluded the workshop with separated sessions on Editing and publishing.

In a short ceremony on the last day, Dr Kaiser Haq, dean of Arts and Humanities at ULAB, awarded certificates to the participants who successfully completed the course.

IU English dept silver jubilee Mar 9

KUSHTIA: The English department of Islamic University (IU) will celebrate its two- day Silver jubilee and alumni reunion programme on the campus on March 9.

The programme will begin on Friday around 9am at the Birshrestha Hamidur Rahman Auditorium of the university and it will end on Saturday night, said the sources of the department on Tuesday.

The founder chairman of English department Prof M Mustafizur Rahman, IU former VC Prof Faez Md Serajul Hoque, running VC Prof M Harun-Ur-Rashid Askari, Pro-VC Prof M Shahinoor Rahman are expected to attend the programme as the most important guests while Treasurer of the university Professor Dr M Selim Toha is expected to attend as special guest.

The two-day programme will conclude a grand rally, reminiscences, lunch, different games, set up of alumni association, raffle draw, colourful cultural function and dinner.

 Chairman of the department Professor Dr AHM Aktarul Islam said all necessary preparations have been completed to hold the programme in a peaceful and festive atmosphere.
