The Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) recovered Tk 92 lakh from the residence of auditor of accounts office in Kishoreganj district on Tuesday.

ACC deputy director Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya said the ACC officials conducted a raid at the residence of auditor Syeduzzaman on Tuesday midnight and recovered Tk 92 lakh from a bag kept in his residence.

Executive magistrate, police and family members of Syeduzzaman were present during the raid.

Earlier, senior government official Setaful Islam fled after embezzling about Tk 1400 lakh meant for compensation of land acquisition purposes. In two consecutive days, he drew about Tk 500 lakh from Sonali Bank of Kishoreganj branch.

Setaful Islam admitted that he had embezzled money with the involvement of some officials including the Deputy Commissioner, additional deputy commissioner (revenue), and most of the money has become a share-split.

The seized money was preserved at the Kishoreganj model police station and will be deposited to the government treasury. Syeduzzaman and Setaful Islam are now in jail.
