Traffic constable dies in accident

A traffic constable was crushed under a truck in Technical intersection of Mirpur Road in the capital on Tuesday morning. The deceased was identified as Abdul Majid, 35, hailing from Chapainawabganj. Sub-inspector Bacchu Miah of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) said that the accident took place around 7am as the truck hit him while he was performing duty, leaving critically injured. Later, he was rushed to DMCH where he succumbed to his injuries.

Woman ‘falls to death’

A woman died as she reportedly fell from the 4th floor of a drug rehabilitation centre at Uttara Sector-12 in the capital early Monday. The deceased was identified as Parvin Runa, 50, daughter of late Abdul Jabbar of Barchar village in Raipura upazila of Narsingdi district.

Sub-inspector of Uttara West Police Station Aminul Kabir said Runa fell off the building while trying to escape from 'Nabajagoron Drug Rehabilitation Centre' around 1:15am climbing down it using a piece of cloth. Police recovered the body around 2:30am and sent it to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for autopsy, he said. According to family sources, Runa, who was a drug addict, had been undergoing treatment at the rehab centre since February 10 last.

2 cloth stores gutted in fire

Two cloth stores were gutted as a fire broke out at RDA market in Rajsahi city on Monday night. Nurul Islam, deputy director of Rajshahi Fire Service Headquarters, said that the fire broke out around 10pm from an electric short circuit at the 1st floor of the market and gutted two shops - No. 79 and 80. On information, four firefighting units rushed to the spot and doused the fire around 10:30pm.

BNP forms human chain

Human chain programme of the Barisal city and district unit BNP protesting conviction of party chairperson Khaleda Zia was formed on Aswini Kumar town hall premises under the cordon off police.

Following the central programme district and city unit BNP formed separate human chain programmes yesterday at 11PM in front of the party office in Sadar road area of the city.  Speakers of the programme said that police and BCL cadres disturbed them everywhere of the roads. They demanded release of Khaleda Zia.

Online water supply billing system introduced

An online billing software has been introduced at the water supply section of Rangpur City Corporation (RpCC) to digitise the water supply billing method of the organisation.

Mayor of Rangpur Mostafizar Rahman Mostafa introduced the online billing software for automation of the billing system for supplied water at a workshop followed by discussion arranged on the occasion at the conference room of RpCC yesterday as the chief guest.

Presided over by Chief Executive Officer of RpCC Akhter Hossain Azad, the City Councilors, officials and employees of the water supply and engineering sections of the city corporation attended the events.
