Abahani Limited, the Bangladesh champions will begin their AFC Cup campaign with home match today against their Maldives counterparts New Radiant Sports Club.

The match will take place at 4:15 pm at the Bangabandhu National Stadium (BNS).

The head coach of the New Radiant SC Oscar Bruzon repeatedly expressed his confident and the commitment that they will win the match but he is very much concern about the ground of the BNS when his counterpart Saiful Bari Titu was very much cautious to put across his expectation.

Titu, who took the charge of Abahani team very recently, while giving a pen picture of his team said, “This is actually I am first time working with Abahani when I took the charge on 12th February, it was very much challenging for me to make fit the players, it was really important to recover the players’ fitness after a long run domestic season.”

“Last few days, we worked hard to regain the players’ potency looking forward this match and now the expectation to have the expected results.”

“I can’t give you assurance that we will win, I think nobody can in football but I can tell we will fight up to last moment to win.”

But Abahani captain Mamun Meah looked a bit courageous to say – “Our target is to move ahead, as we could not do it in previous despite playing several times and now the team is in good shape.” While manager Sattayait Das Rupu said, “The first match is very much important if we can do good result it would be a huge boost up to go forward.”

Titu replying to a query said, “Actually to dominate in a match is not important, as at the end of the day result will be counted. If you play with 70, 80, 100 percent domination but it is meaningless if you can’t win. How long you dominate in the match is no matter, if you can bring the result in your favoure that is important,” said Titu.

There was also talking about the Indian champions Bengaluru who are also in this group, Titu said, “Yes, Bengaluru is a strong side and also a rich team who have a big (12-man) coaching staff, but it does not mean we are afraid of we will have to throw challenge. Confidently I feel our team is ready to fight in tomorrow’s match.”

Oscar Bruzon, who was very confident with his team, looked very confident about to win today’s match against Abahani and he has idea about the team, said, “I saw three matches of Abahani in last December and we chalked out the strategy against them.”

Oscar, the Spaniard said, “We are confident, the players are very spirited, committed and determined to win, we like to enjoy the speed and possession, I don’t know who are favourites in today’s match but we will play harder and want to qualify.”

Oscar, when talking about the BNS said, “I don’t know what would be the condition of the ground, as I saw the match of Abahani, watched the ground was not up to the mark, it was not easy to control the ball as the ground was uneven.”
