Stocks break 4-day gaining streak

Stock markets closed yesterday down breaking a rally that continued at both Dhaka and Chittagong stock exchanges in the past four sessions in a row, reports BSS.

The markets were upbeat in the last four-days, taking the broader index at the prime bourse up at close of every trading session since February 27.

The broader index of DSEX of DSE closed the session with 48.05 points down at 5,835.34. The blue-chip DS30 and the Shariah DSES also followed the same trend with 20.05 points down at 2,152.36 and with 6.05 points down at 1,367 respectively.

Out of the 334 issues traded on DSE, 90 gained against 209 losing issues.The trade volume at DSE fell to 8.74 crore from Sunday's 9.68 crore shares. But the trade value at DSE increased to Taka 389.53 crore from the previous session of Tk 363.44 crore.

The five major gaining companies were Gemini Sea, Apex Spinning, BD Auto Cars, Aziz Pipes and Apex Tannery. The five major losing companies were BXSYNTH, Rupali Insurance, Meghna Pet, Phoenix Finance and Union Capital. The top five turnover leaders were Ibn Sina, Monno Ceramics, National Tubes, Gemini Sea and Unique EHRL.

The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) closed the day of the week with downward trends with its major CASPI 142.20 points up at 18,030.40.

At CSE, 227 issues were traded. Of those, 62 closed higher and 148 closed lower when 56.53 lakh shares worth Taka 2.63 crore changed hands.
