Girl commits ‘suicide’ in Barisal

A college girl allegedly committed suicide by taking poison over a family feud in Borakotha village of Barisal on Monday morning.

The deceased was identified as Rabeya, 18, daughter of Abdul Gani Hawlader of Borakotha village.

Rabeya, a student of Borakotha Union Degree College, lived with her mother Mukul Begum in their house, said locals adding that after a feud with her mother she consumed poison on Sunday night.

Following the incident, she was first taken to upazila health complex from where she was referred to Sher-e-Bangla Medical College.

Later on Monday morning, she died at the hospital, said Ward Master Abul Kalam of the hospital. The body was sent to the hospital morgue for an autopsy, he added.

2 ‘cattle thieves’ lynched  

Two suspected cattle lifters were killed and another was injured in a lynch-mob attack at Madarhat in Rangpur early Monday.

One of the deceased was identified as Raju, hailing from Shibganj upazila of Bogra.Harunur Rashid, Officer-in-Charge (investigation) of Pirganj Police Station, said a gang of thieves entered Madarhat area in a bid to steal cow around 3:30am.

Sensing the presence of the thieves, locals chased the thieves and caught three of them. Later, they gave the thieves a good beating, leaving them injured critically.  On information, police went to the spot and sent the injured to Pirganj Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared two of them dead.

Spinning mill catches fire

A fire broke out at a spinning mill in BSCIC area of Konabari in Gazipur city early Monday.

Akhterzuzzaman Liton, deputy director of Gazipur Fire Service, said the fire broke out on the ground floor of the two-storey building of Kader Synthetic Fibers Factory around 2am.

Later, the fire engulfed the adjoining rooms of the factory. On information, nine fire-fighting units rushed to spot and brought the blaze under control around 8:15am.

The fire gutted threads, cotton and machineries.
