3 ‘criminals’ killed in gunfights

A total of three suspected criminals were killed in two separate gunfights with law enforcers in Barguna and Brahmanbaria yesterday, reports UNB. Two suspected pirates were killed in a gunfight with members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Majherchar area of Patharghata upazila in Barguna. The deceased were the members of notorious gang 'Hasan Bahini', said Hasan Al Rajib, wing commander of Rab-8. When a patrol team of Rab-8 chased a trawler in the Bhaleshwar river around 6am the gang members took shelter in Majherchar, he said. When the RAB members

reached the spot, the pirates opened fire on them, prompting them to retaliate, triggering a gunfight. After gunfight, the elite force members recovered the bodies from the spot.

Meanwhiler, a suspected robber was killed in a reported gunfight with police at Kaitola village in Nabinagar upazila of Brahmanbaria.

The deceased was identified as Jabed Miah, 45, son of Edon Miah of Kaitola village and an accused in nine cases including of robbery and murder, said police. Md Aslam Shikder, officer-in-charge of Nabinagar Police Station, said a team of police of Shibpur Police outpost arrested Jabed at 8pm on Sunday. After gleaning information from him, police along with Jabed conducted a drive in Dakkhin Kaitola Haor bridge to recover arms. Sensing the presence of police, his associates opened fire on police, prompting them to retaliate that triggered a gunfight, leaving Jabed bullet injured, said the OC.

Being rescued, the injured was taken to Nabinagar upazila health complex where doctors declared him dead. Five police members were injured in the incident. Police also recovered a pipe gun, ten cartridges and three machetes.
