private Hajj package

Minimum cost fixed at Tk 3.33 lakh this year

STAFF REPORTER

The Hajj Agencies’ Association of Bangladesh (HAAB) yesterday announced the Hajj packages for this year. The minimum cost has been fixed at Tk. 332,868 per pilgrim under private management. HAAB secretary general Shahadat Hossain Taslim announced the packages at a press conference held at a city hotel. Besides the rate mentioned, every pilgrim has to carry additional money for sacrificial animals, he said. The pilgrims should complete the registration process under private management by April 15 by paying Tk. 332,868, he added.

Of that amount, plane fare is Tk. 138,191. The registration process under private Hajj management will begin on March 6 and continue until April 15, Taslim said.

The government has approved 774 Hajj agencies for sending pilgrims to Saudi Arabia this year.

According to ministry sources, those who are interested in performing Hajj under government management can deposit the money by March 11 after completing the registration process.

Action will be taken against any private agency that is found to charge less or more than the packages fixed by the government, religious affairs secretary Anisur Rahman told this correspondent. Religious affairs minister Motiur Rahman said on March 1 that the Hajj flights will begin from July 14 this year.

On February 26, the Cabinet approved the draft National Hajj and Umrah Policy 2018 and the Hajj Package 2018, fixing the minimum cost for a Hajj pilgrim under government management at Tk. 331,359.

A total of 127,198 pilgrims from Bangladesh will perform Hajj this year.  Of them, 120,000 will go to Saudi Arabia under private management and 7,198 under government management.  The government has started a hotline, 09602666707, for any complaint to be lodged with the religious affairs ministry regarding Hajj management and any possible fraudulence.  It can also be dialled for information about Hajj.
