‘Robber’ beaten to death

NARSINGDI: A suspected robber was beaten to death by a mob at Aganagar village in Raipura upazila on Thursday night, reports UNB.

The deceased was identified as Kamal Mia alias Pichhi Kamal, of Balukandi Kandapara village. Quoting locals, police said villagers chased a gang of robbers around 12:30am while they were trying to commit robbery in the village and beat one of the robbers to death. Refusing the accusation of robbery, deceased's brother Hanif Mia said a rival group hacked Kamal over cable line business dispute in the area. Pichhi Kamal was accused in several cases including robbery, the OC added.

One killed in B’baria clash

BRAHMANBRIA: A man was killed and five others were injured in a clash between two groups of villagers over a piece of land at Laxmipur village in Nabinagar upazila early yesterday, reports UNB.

The deceased was identified as Dulal Miah, son of Mansur Miah of the village. Police quoting local people said Basu Miah's family had been at loggerheads with Muslim Miah over a piece of land. As a sequel to the enmity, Basu Miah's supports swooped on Dulal Miah and five others on their way to the disputed land early Saturday and hacked Dulal with a sharp weapon, leaving him dead on the spot and five others injured. The injured were sent to Nabinagar Health Complex while the body to Sadar Hospital for autopsy.

Six shops gutted in Satkhira

SATKHIRA: At least six shops were gutted as a fire broke out in a shop at Pakapol intersection in the district town early yesterday, reports UNB.

The fire originated from electric short circuit around 2:30am and soon engulfed the adjacent shops.

On information, two units of fire fighters from Satkhira Fire station went to the spot and doused the fire after half an hour effort, said Maruf Ahmed, officer- in-charge of Sadar Police Station. He said the fire damaged five fruits shops and a cosmetics shop. The estimated loss would be around Tk 20 lakh, said Sheikh Sabbir Hossain, one of affected shop owners

Fake NSI held in Faridpur

FARIDPUR: Police arrested a person posing as an official of the National Security Intelligence (NSI) and his accomplice from a property at Hazrakanda of Bhanga upazila in the district early yesterday, reports UNB.

The detainee was identified as Sohag Molla, 30, and his female accomplice Suborno Khandakar, 40.

Officer-in-charge of Bhanga Police Station Kazi Saidur Rahman said Sohag Molla with the help of his female accomplice used to cheat people and acquire money from local traders.
