Chandpur: Ali Najir, an expatriate of the district living in France, has made a giant national flag of Bangladesh to present it to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina marking the Independence Day, reports UNB.

The flag measuring 125 feet in length and 75 feet in width was handed over to Awami League Relief and Social Welfare Affairs Secretary Sujit Roy Nandy at Hamankardi Palli Mangal High School ground on Thursday morning so that he reaches it to the Prime Minister. Najir who returned to the country on October 3, 2017 also made another 10-km long flag to take it along with him to France. Besides, he distributed 1,050 national flags among students and residents of Hamankardi village under Moishadi union.

“I’ve taken the initiative out of my pure love for the country and being inspired by the ideology of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman,” he said.

Asked about the reason behind making such a big flag, he said, “When I introduce myself as a Bangladeshi to people of other countries, many cannot recognise the country. So, I’ve made the flag to showcase the identity of my country to the world.”

A tailor of Baburhat Bazar took two months to make all the flags at a cost of Tk 8 lakh, he said.
