Helpline assists children at risk, say speakers

GAIBANDHA: Speakers at an orientation here said Child Helpline-1098 is playing a vital role in stopping violence against children by providing emergency support services to

them facing violence, abuse and exploitation, reports BSS.

They came up with the observation at the orientation on Child Helpline-1098 held at the conference room of Sadar upazila parishad of the town here yesterday.

Upazila Social Service Office arranged the function under Child Sensitive Social Protection in Bangladesh Project funded by UNICEF.

With UNO Rafiqul Islam in the chair, the function was also addressed among others by upazila chairman Abdul Karim, president of upazila Awami League Rezaul Karim Reza, upazila agriculture officer Sadiqul Islam, upazila secondary education officer ABM Nakibul Hasan, and social worker of the project Ahsan Habib.

Earlier, upazila social services officer Golam Azam made a power point presentation on the project, saying the project is being implemented across the country under the Ministry of Social Welfare in assistance with UNICEF.

The Child Helpline enables anyone to report child rights violations, child abuse,

exploitation or any other act of disruption to the protection of children by calling a toll-free number “1098” from any corner of the country, through any mobile phone operator, he also said.

Through this service, the children will be able to inform their concerns to the highest authority and will receive care and support as per their individual needs, he added.

Islam in his speeches said a revolution has taken place in the field of ICT Bangladesh and the free Child Helpline-1098 promotes and protects child rights and gives children’s interest utmost priority.
