‘Mosadek’s bad form leads to his axe from national team’

As he is considered as the most talented cricketer in the country at the moment, Mosaddek Hossain Saikat’s exclusion from the national team despite recovering from the eye infection raised quite a few questions. According to Khaled Mahmud Sujon, the former technical director of the Bangladesh team, the youngster is yet to get his rhythm what prompted his axe.

The stat however justified of what Mahmud claimed. In the last six matches in the Dhaka Premier league with Abahani Limited, Mosaddek is yet to hit a half-century but more importantly he was not in the natural flow what was seen in the past.

Mosaddek got an entry into the national team with back of some big knocks in the first class cricket like National Cricket League and Bangladesh Cricket League. He also scored runs in abundance in the Dhaka Premier League to establish him one of the brightest prospect of Bangladesh cricket. But the agony started after his eye infection which ruled him out a couple of series. Then he though, was included in the national team, he couldn’t live to the expectation.

“Honestly speaking, I am not used to see him like this way. He wasn’t quite in the zone. He obviously played a couple of good knocks but the flow, the intensity was missing,” said Khaled Mahmud.

“In the past, he was used to play big knock once he got set but this time, specially after the eye infection, he seemed to struggle a lot.”

According to Mahmud, he also saw a lack of confidence in the young guy.

“Earlier, when the team was in danger, he looked determine to get the side out of the trouble. Even he did it, challenging everyone publicly. That confidence is missing.”

However the Mahmud, also the coach of Abahani believed it is the matter of just one good innings which could revive the Mosaddek of his old.

“It is not abnormal that the players will go through a bad phase at some point of his career. Mosaddek has been in a bad patch of his career at the moment. Hopefully he will play some good knocks in the league and regain his confidence and form. He has the capability of turning the things around.”
