Tigers to attend two more days in practice session

The Bangladesh squad for the Nidahas Trophy Tri-nation T20 International tournament will have two-day practice session ahead of their departure to the Colombo. The practice camp with the available players will kick-off today with the players training on the center wicket. The team will depart for Colombo on Sunday.

The tournament, oragnised to mark the Sri Lanka’s 70th year of Independence will start with the match between India and Sri Lanka on March 6. Each team will take on each other twice in the group phase after which the top two teams in the point table will reach in the final which will be held on March 18. All of the matches will be taken place at R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. Bangladesh will start their tournament, facing off mighty India on March 8.

The likes of vice-captain Mahmudullah Riyad, opener Tamim Iqbal, pace bowler Mustafizur Rahman who are playing the Pakistan Super League (PSL) will join the side in Colombo straight from Dubai. However regular skipper Shakib Al Hasan is in danger to miss the whole tournament given he needs to have physiotherapy to heal his finger injury completely.

The doctor in Thailand where he took advanced treatment advised him to rehab for some days after the physiotherapy that left his participation in the tournament in limbo. Mahmudullah Riyad will lead the side if Shakib missed the tournament.

Bangladesh have been in a jeopardised situation following two ordinary series in South Africa and at home last month. The expectation was high when they played a tri-nation ODI tournament at home involving Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka but the latter frustrated them to clinch the trophy.

Bangladesh also surrendered to Sri Lanka meekly in the two-match Test series and T20 International series, sparking a huge uproar. The result in the series underlined how important a head coach is for the team at the moment. But BCB however is yet to find a coach and finally appointed fast bowling coach Courtney Walsh as the interim coach in the Nidahas Trophy.

The board hoped that they will appoint a head coach once the team returns to the country. There is rumour that BCB started talking with Richard Pybus again to reach a mutual understanding. Pybus was the one alongside Phil Simons who gave an interview to the board for Bangladesh’s head coach three months ago but during that period the board didn’t appoint any of Pybus or Simons.
