UNB

SYLHET:  Locals on Wednesday staged a demonstration at Battala of Jaintapur upazila headquarters seeking the arrest of those who were involved in the killing of madrasa student Mozammel over a religious congregation on Monday night within 48 hours, reports UNB.

Thousands of people, including madrasa students, thronged Battala in small processions from different areas. They staged demonstration blocking the Sylhet-Tamabil road.

The angry mob also vandalised at least 40 shops there.

On Monday, two groups of religious ideologies locked into clashes over a congregation around 11pm in Darbast area of the upazila, leaving Mozammel dead on the spot and 50 people injured.

The victim, Mozammel Hossain, was a student of Dawra-e-Hadith of Haripur Bazar Madrasah and a resident of Borogochha village in Gowainghat upazila of the district.

Locals said the clash ensued when Wahabi followers reportedly attacked a religious congregation arranged by Sunni followers. The sporadic clashes continued between the two groups till the early hours of Tuesday.

Meanwhile, additional law enforcers were deployed in the area to avoid further trouble.
