UNB

COMILLA: Comilla Medical College authorities on Wednesday suspended 26 students, all leaders and activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), for different terms over a clash between two BCL factions on January 5 that left 10 students injured, reports UNB.

They also expelled them from the residential halls of the college and banned all kinds of political activities, including processions and rallies, on the campus, said college Principal Prof Mohsin-Uz-Zaman Chowdhury.

The decision was made at a meeting of the Academic Council after the BCL men were found guilty during investigation, he said.

Of the BCL men, three were suspended for three years while nine for two years and 14 for one year, Prof Mohsin, also President of the Academic Council, said, adding that 18 students were also warned.

Earlier on January 5, the college was declared closed as the supporters of BCL leaders Abdul Hannan and Habibur Rahman Palash locked into a clash over establishing supremacy on the college campus that left 16 students injured. Later on January 6, Dr Jahangir Hossain Bhuiyan, acting principal of the medical college, filed a case with Kotwali Model Police Station accusing 52 leaders and activists of BCL.
