Indian leading paddlers take part in TT league

Sports Reporter

The premier division, first division and the women's table tennis league started yesterday at the Shaheed Tajuddin Indoor Stadium when a bunch of India stars are taking part for different teams.  A total of 11 teams in Premier League and 24 teams in first division league and nine teams in women’s league are participating this year. Meanwhile, 25 foreign paddlers including the Indian No 4 ranking player Arjun Ghosh and two times Commonwealth Games gold medal winner Shuvajit Shaha are playing for different teams of premier and first division leagues.

Arjun Ghosh is playing for reigning champions Arunima Club, while Shuvajit Shaha is playing for Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra.

This is the first time so many foreign players are taking part in the domestic league, as the former national star and now a coach Mostafa Billah’s comments – “In fact it is the election season, so all the officials are attentive to show their activities. If their activities would continue round the year the game would shape up in different height.”

Mohammed Ali, country’s one of the premier coaches of table tennis said, “This time it would be a very tough league, as some clubs included quality players from abroad, none of the teams are absolute favourites, so it is very much tough to predict, who will be the champions. There would nothing surprised if the team would finish on sixth position, who formed the squad to be the champions,” said the former national player Ali.
