Eviction drives on to save Dakatia River in Chandpur

In a bid to save the Dakatia river, the upazila administration in a drive evicted at least 16 illegal business establishments from the river bank at Goalvaor in Faridganj upazila on Tuesday noon.

The team led by Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) AHM Mahfuzur Rahman evicted a total of 15 illegal business establishments from the river bank in Goalvaor Bazar area.

Besides, an establishment was evicted from Char-Raghobroy Shingho School area.

UNO AHM Mahfuzur Rahman said the businessmen were requested earlier to shift their establishments in given time, but they did not pay heed to it.

So, the administration evicted the illegal establishments from the river bank to save the river, he said, adding that the drive will remain continue to evict all illegal establishments from the river area soon, the officer added.

Man gets life for killing wife

A court in Laxmipur yesterday sentenced a man to life term imprisonment for killing his wife in Ramganj upazila of the district three years back. District and Session Judge Dr AKM Abul Kashem pronounced the verdict convicting Sahin Miah resident of Fatepur village of the upazila, for killing his wife Sikha Akhter in 2015.

According to the prosecution story, in brief, on September 14 in 2015, Sahin killed his wife over a family matter at his house. Sirajullah, father of the victim, filed a case with Ramganh police station against Sahin.

Police after investigation submitted a charge-sheet to the court. The judge after examining the witnesses and evidences handed down the verdict in presence of Sahin.
