Sirajganj, Bogra: A Hindu woman was gangraped allegedly by five youths in Kamarkhand upazila of Sirajganj district yesterday while police on Monday rescued a woman who was allegedly tortured and locked at her husband’s house over trifling matter by her husband and his family members at Kanpur village in Shibganj upazila. In Sirajganj, a Hindu woman has allegedly been gangraped by five youths yesterday, reports UNB.

Police have arrested four of the culprits and a case has been filed over the incident. The arrestees are Jasmat Mondal, 30, son of late Chand Miah, Makmudul Sheikh, 35, son of late Robi Sheikh, Ayub Sheikh, 28, son of Sohrab Ali Sheikh, and Sohag Sheikh, 30, son of Abdus Salam Sheikh of Bhadraghat village in the upazila.

According to the case statement, the woman was returning home after hearing hymns at a religious event at Bazar Bhadrahat by a CNG-run auto-rickshaw on Saturday night.

The five young men dragged her out of the three-wheeler and took her into a nearby jungle in Bhadraghat where they raped her in turns.

Informed that a woman was abducted and taken into the jungle, police conducted a drive in the early hours of Sunday and rescued the victim from an abandoned tin-shed house. They also arrested Jasmat at that time.

Based on information provided by Jasmat, police arrested the three other youths, said Atoar Rahman, Senior Assistant Superintendent (Kamarkhand Circle).

The arrestees were sent to jail after they were produced before a court, he said, adding that they were trying to arrest the rest culprit, Sohag Sheikh, 28, son of Abu Shama Sheikh of the village.

In Bogra, police on Monday evening rescued a woman who was allegedly tortured by her husband and his family members in Shibganj upazila, reports UNB. Police also arrested the victim’s sister-in-law following the alleged torture.

The tortured was Sanjida Akter, 22, daughter of Sirajul Islam of Haripur village of the upazila, who was married to Zillur Rahman of the village.

Sanjida’s father Sirajul Islam claimed, the husband Zillur along with his sister and mother carried out severe torture on Sanjida on Sunday noon, blaming that Sanjida was busking her hair standing open in the house yard.

Later, they shaved Sanjida’s hair and kept her locked under the house even not giving any rice since Monday evening, said the father.

On information, police rushed to the spot and arrested Minara, sister-in-law of the victim while the husband and his mother managed to escape the scene, said officer-in-charge (Operation) of Shibganj Police Station Zahid Hasan.

The father Sirajul Islam filed a case against three people on Sunday, added the OC.
