Special camp under Walsh begins today

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) arranged a nine-day special practice camp ahead of the national team’s tour in Sri Lanka for the Nidahas Trophy which will mark the country’s 70th Independence Day. The tournament will be a tri-nation T20 series with India are the other side alongside Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.

The Bangladesh’s nine-day special camp in which 14 bowlers and five batsmen will take part, will be supervised by bowling coach Courtney Walsh. The camp starts tomorrow and ends on March 3, just ahead of the team’s departure to the Colombo.

Bowlers who will take part in the camp are Taskin Ahmed, Kamrul Islam Rabbi, Abu Jayed Rahi, Mustafizur Rahman, Abul Hasan Raju, Abu Haider Rony, Mohammad Saifuddin, Rubel Hossain, Ebadat Hossain, Hasan Mahmud, Mohammad Robiul, Khaled Ahmed, Qazi Anik  and Hossain Ali.

Five Batsmen—Imrul Kayes, Sabbir Ahmed, Soumya Sarkar, Zakir Hasan and Ariful Haque will also participate in the camp alongside the fast bowlers.

Meanwhile opener Tamim Iqbal left Dhaka yesterday for Dubai to take part in the Pakistan Super League. Batsman Mahmudullah and paceman Mustafizur Rahman have already reached Dubai but Tamim had obtained his visa approval at late which made his journey delayed.

Mahmudullah was retained by Quetta Gladiators while Mustafizur will make his appearance for Lahore Qalandars in the tournament, featuring six sides with the inclusion of Multan Sultans as the new franchise. Tamim will play for Peshwar Zalmi, a team in which Shakib Al Hasan was also featured. But the all-rounder is set to miss some matches for his finger injury which he sustained during the recently concluded tri-nation series. It was learnt that till Shakib’s full recovery, another Bangladesh all-rounder Sabbir Rahman will play in Shakib’s placer.

Shakib however returned to the practice ground yesterday but it is understood he needs some time to get back to the competitive cricket.
