Man killed over land dispute

A man was killed in a clash over a land in Tilakpur village of Sylhet on Wednesday morning.

The deceased was identified as Abdur Rob Mia, 38, son of late Rashid Mia of Tilakpur village, said Shamsuddoha.

Rob Mia had enmity with his cousin Ashik Mia over a piece of land. Recently the victim received a court verdict in favour of him.

On Monday morning, when he tried to take the possession of the land his cousin along with his associates attacked him, leaving Rob injured, said police quoting locals.

Severely injured Rob Mia was taken to Osmani Medical and College Hospital on Tuesday morning where he succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday morning.

3 promoted to secretaries

Three acting secretaries, including those at the Election Commission and Expatriates' Welfare and Oversees Employment Ministry, have been promoted to secretaries.

The Public Administration Ministry issued a notification in this regard on Tuesday.

The three officials are Secretary in-charge of Election Commission Helal Uddin Ahmed, Secretary in-charge of Expatriates' Welfare and Oversees Employment Ministry Dr Nomita Halder and Chairman (equivalent to secretary in-charge) of the Land Appeal Board Md Abdul Hannan.

Blood donation programme

Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) on Wednesday organised a day-long voluntary blood donation programme marking the International Mother Language Day on its office premises in Dhaka on Wednesday.

ACC Chairman Iqbal Mahmud inaugurated the programme after paying tribute to the language martyrs at the ACC Media Centre in Dhaka.

The ACC chief said, “If we work together for the welfare of our people, language and the county's future, genuine respect would be shown to the martyrs.

Self-sacrifice is needed to build a happy and prosperous Bangladesh.”

Regarding blood donation programme, ACC chairman said, “It is a small effort to show respect to the martyrs.”

The ACC chief congratulated the officers and employees for donating blood.
