The full fledged preparation of Abahani Limited is going on for the upcoming AFC Cup football from the second week of this month while their foreign recruits Emeka Darlington, Landing Darboe and Sunday will join tomorrow.

As the foreign booters were not allow in the Independence Cup, Emeka, Sunday and Landing were on leave for last few days and scheduled to land here in Dhaka tomorrow at 5pm to join the team.  The Saif Power Battery Bangladesh Football League champions Abahani Limited will begin their campaign on March 7.

Abahani Limited have been placed in Group E along with the Indian League (I League) champions Aizawl and runners-up Bengaluru and the Maldives champions New Radiant. Bangladesh champions will begin their mission at home ground with taking on the Radiant of Maldives.

Abahani started their preparation after the Independence Cup football.

Abahani, who accomplished the Asian quota of foreign booters including the Japanese midfielder Seiya Kojima, was chosen from three players were in trial along with Iranian striker Behgardom and a Brazilian attacking midfielder Rodrigo Mota.

But after having practice for few days, Seiya Kojima had a bit injury, as Abahani was a bit confused whether he would recover and would get fit and the Japanese gave great relief to the team officials and coach Saiful Bari Titu recovering very soon and again joining in the training session.

Saiful Bari Titu, who took the charge of the team for AFC Cup, told this correspondent yesterday that Kojima is fully fit and he has been taking part in the practice regularly.

Titu and the team manager Sattayajit Das Rupu are impressed with the performance of Kojima, as he doing well in the training but both of them said that he would have to prove his skills in the match.

“In the practice sessions he is doing very well but actually it would be proved how much he is good when he will play in the match. After joining Emeka, Landing and Sunday we can make a comparison,” said Titu.

Rupu also said, “In the training session he looked well but after playing in a match he can justify his inclusion.”

Rupu also said that they need to play a practice match ahead of the AFC Cup but looking for a team, as right now there is no team, he is thinking if possible then to play with the national team, who are in the camp.
