Abahani face Jamal in key match

DPL fifth round from today
Sports Reporter

Dhaka Premier League (DPL) for the 2018 season will resume with the fifth round fixture at three different venues in Dhaka and its adjoining areas after a two-day break today.

Defending champions Gazi Group Cricketers will lock horns with Brothers Union at the Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Prothisthan (BKSP) Ground-3.

Pre-tournament favourites Abahani Limited will take on Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club at the BKSP Ground-4, whilst Prime Doleshwar Sporting Club will compete against Legends of Rupganj at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium (SBNCS).

Abahani held their pre-match day practice at the BCB-National Cricket Academy (NCA) with their players. This match they could get down playing without foreign player. But there will be no problem for them to play with no foreign player as the team management said.

They think that their local players are in right shape and foreign player could not get enough chance to perform. So, they could have to play down the next match without foreign player.

But they are thinking to bring a quality player after going away their recruitment Sachin Rana. Hopefully they will get another player in their sixth round game against Mohammedan Sporting Club, who are also searching another foreign player after Salman Butt went away.

Abahani’s spin all-rounder Mehedi Hasan Miraj also admitted that they have no problem with no foreign player.

“The way the players are performing for the team we’ll try to maintain it ahead,” said Mehedi Hasan Miraj.

“We have a good record of four victories out of four matches. We’ll attempt to continue it,” Miraj told media.

After the conclusion of the fourth round tie, Abahani are now leading the chart with eight points, the team who are yet to concede any loss as they have a record of four-win out of the four-match road string.

Sheikh Jamal on the other hand are closely followed table-topper Abahani with six points. Prime Doleshwar though chalked up the same points that’s of Sheikh Jamal. However the latter are placed third on the basis of  better net  run-rate. Sheikh Jamal have a net run-rate of 0.246 in their kitty, while Prime Doleshwar -0.0225.

Gazi Group Cricketers averted the blushes of the rock-bottom place of the points table despite being posted identical two points. A total of four teams received the same points but their places have been defined by better net run-rate.

Legends of Rupganj placed sixth with four points what they got from two victories off four-match outings.
