Promotion boost for civil servants

391 made deputy secretaries
Special Correspondent

In a big promotion boost for civil servants, a total of 391 senior assistant secretaries have been promoted to the post of the Deputy Secretary, raising the total number of officials in the post to 1,745.

The Ministry of Public Administration issued a gazette notification in this regard on Tuesday night.

Sources in the ministry said that the authorities have promoted the officials for posting them in the filed as Deputy Commissioners (DCs) before the upcoming national polls, which is scheduled to be held at end of December this year.

There are a number officials now working in the field as DCs and most of them have completed the tenure of more than two years in the field level administration, said government sources.

Before the country’s parliamentary elections, they must be withdrawn and replaced by new officials, the sources added.

Sources said the authorities concerned will not post the newly promoted officials to different ministries and the divisions as there is no vacant post and most of them have to be absorbed at the same desk of the ministries and the divisions concerned.

Earlier in December last year, the government promoted 193 officials to the post of joint secretaries, attaching them to the Public Administration Ministry as officers on special duty. While the order for the joint secretaries was published on December 22, the government in another order 10 days earlier, on December 11, promoted 128 joint secretaries to additional secretaries.

Earlier, on April 23, last year, a total of 267 senior assistant secretaries were promoted to deputy secretaries. In November last year, 536 officials were elevated to deputy secretaries, joint secretaries and additional secretaries.
