Homage to language martyrs

Amar Ekushey and the International Mother Language Day was observed in different districts yesterday with due respect and solemnity, paying rich tributes to the martyrs of the historic 1952 Language Movement.

Our Jamalpur correspondent reports: Marking the day, Chairman, Parliamentary Standing Committee on Land, Rezaul Karim Hira placed wreath at the Shaheed Minar on Jamalpur High School ground in the town at one minute past 12 midnight last night to pay profound respect to the Language Movement Heroes.

Authority of Zila Parishad, Police Administration, Jamalpur municipality and Upazila Parishad, Freedom fighters, Leaders of District Bar Association and political parties, educational institutes, Jamalpur press club authority and different social and cultural organisations observed the day by placing wreaths at Shaheed Minar.

Besides, District administration, different political parties, cultural and social organisations also adopted separate programmes to observe the day. Our Panchagarh correspondent adds: Amar Ekushey and the International Mother Language Day was observed in the district yesterday in a befitting manner, paying rich tributes to the language heroes.

Leaders of different political parties, activities of socio-cultural and professional organizations, and people from all walks of life gathered here at local Shaheed Minars to pay respect the martyrs of the 1952 Language Movement and placed wreaths one after another.

Marking the day, the district administration held a discussion, milad mahfil, poetry recitation, arts competition for the children and cultural function in the district.

Local MP advocate Nurul Islam Sujon placed a wreath at Boda Shaheed Minar at zero hours.

Deputy commissioner of Panchagarh Mahammad Jahorul Islam, police super Gias Uddin Ahamed and others also placed wreaths at the Shaheed Minar.

Our Chuadanga correspondent adds: Marking the day different programmes were held including placing wreaths at Shahid Minars, discussion meetings, rallies, cultural functions, supplying improve diet to the inmates of jails, orphanages and hospitals in the district.

Whip Solaiman Hoque Selun, local member of the parliament placed wreaths at the Shahid Minar on Government College ground at zero hours past Tuesday midnight. Then Deputy Commissioner Jiauddin Ahmed, personnel of police department, leaders and activists of different political parties, activists of socio-cultural organizations and students of educational institutions placed wreaths at the respective local Shahid Minars of the district.

In Faridpur, various programmes were taken here by Faridpur District administration and different socio-cultural organisations to observe the day. The programmes include placing wreaths at Shaheed Minar, hoisting national flags at half-mast atop all public and private buildings, mourning procession (probhat ferry), discussion, and cultural and literary functions.

Flower garlands were placed at 12:01 am last night at Shaheed Minar of Government Rajendra College premises on behalf of LGRD Minister Khandker Mosharraf Hossain, Deputy Commissioner Ommey Salma Tanzia, Faridpur Zila Parishad chairman Lokman Hossain Mridah, Superintendent of Police Jamal Pasha, District Awami League president Subol Chandra Saha, Sadar upazila chairman Khandker Motesham Hossain Babor, Faridpur Pourashava mayor Mahatab Ali Methu, Govt Rajendra college principal Mosharraf Ali, Faridpur Medical College principal Khabirul Islam and Faridpur press club president Imtiaz Hasan Rubel, among others.

Since early in the morning, thousands of people, including different political parties, socio-cultural bodies, and students, teachers and employees of different school and college, thronged to Shaheed Minar at Govt Rajendra College walking barefooted with bunches flowers in their hands.
