Art camp ends at JU

A two-day long art camp titled ‘India@Bangladesh 2.0’ concluded on Monday night on the Jahangirnagar University (JU) campus.

JU Fine Arts Department in association with Indian High Commission organised the camp on the premises of the department for the first time. Indian High Commissioner Harsh Vardhan Shringla addressed the concluding session as the chief guest.

Addressing the event, the high commissioner said “Indian High Commission is always interested to encourage young meritorious students and take forward the binding of mutual understanding between the two countries”. Presided over by the Chairman of Fine Arts Department M M Moise Uddin, JU Vice Chancellor Professor Farzana Islam was addressed the session as special guest. A total of 50 students from the Fine Arts Department of 11 public and private universities took part at the art camp.

At the ending session, Harsh Vardhan distributed the prizes among the winners.

Chuadanga Literary Award goes to IU teacher

ISLAMIC UNIVERSITY: Dr M Robiul Hossain, a professor of Bangla Department of Islamic University (IU) in Kushtia, will get the Chuadanga Literary Honour Award 2017 for his outstanding contribution to research, an IU press release said yesterday morning.

Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor will hand over the award to Robiul Hossain as the chief guest at the Apar Bangla Opar Bangla Literary Conference 2017. Chuadanga Sahitya Parishad organises the conference on February 24-25 at Muktamanch of Shilpakala Academy, Chuadanga on the occasion of the 40th founding anniversary of the organisation. Chuadanga Sahitya Parishad President Mohammad Towhid Hossain will preside over the function.

DU set to observe Amar Ekushey

 Dhaka University (DU) authority has chalked out a series of programmes to observe Amar Ekushey, the International Mother Language Day with due respect.

University’s “Central Coordination Committee for Observing Amar Ekushey” and various sub-committees are working to observe the day smoothly and peacefully.

Teachers, students and various organaisations of DU will place wreaths at the Central Shaheed Minar to pay homage to the Language Movement heroes early yesterday.

A Provat Feri (Dawn March) led by DU Vice-Chancellor Dr Akhtaruzzaman will be brought out at 6: 30 am from the base of Aparajeya Bangla sculpture. Senate and Syndicate members of DU, teachers, students and staffs will join the Provat Feri. After offering Fateha to the martyrs of language movement at Azimpur Graveyard, the procession will place wreaths at the Central Shaheed Minar to pay tribute to the martyrs.

IU AIS dept gets new chairman

ISLAMIC UNIVERSITY: Islamic University (IU) authorities have appointed Professor Dr M Abdus Shaheed Miah as the new chairman of Accounting and Information Systems (AIS) department of the university.

IU Vice-Chancellor Professor M Harun-Ur-Rashid Askari appointed him to the post for the next three years, IU acting registrar SM Abdul Latif said.
