Road accident kills four

Four people were killed and two others injured in a head-on collision between a bus and a CNG-run auto-rickshaw on Mymensingh-Kishoreganj highway in Ram Gopalpur area of Gouripur upazila yesterday.

The identity of the deceased could not be known immediately.

Delwar Ahmmed, officer-in-charge of Gouripur Police Station, said that the collision took place around 1pm, leaving four passengers of the auto-rickshaw dead on the spot.

4 robbers held in Chuadanga

Chuadanga: Detectives in a drive arrested four robbers along with four bombs and five sharp weapons from Hoguldanga village in Damurhuda upazila on Monday night, reports UNB.

The arrestees were identified as Hossain Ali, 27, Lavlu, 32, Selim, 25, and Abdus Samad, 33.

Ashraful Islam, sub-inspector of detective branch of police in Chuadanga, said being tipped-off that a gang of robber was taking preparation for committing robbery, a team of police conducted a drive around 10:30pm and arrested the four robbers along with the bombs and sharp weapons.

Man killed over land dispute

THAKURGAON: A man was beaten to death at Uttar Bathina village in Sadar upazila over disputed land yesterday morning, reports UNB.

The deceased was identified as Abdus Samad Khan, 40, son of late Mazid Khan.

Family members said Samad had a long-standing over land dispute with Abul Khasem of the same village. They locked into an altercation in the morning.

At one stage, the people of Abul Khasem beat Samad up, leaving dead on the spot.

Confirming the matter, Md Kafil Uddin, officer-in-charge of Thakurgaon Sadar Police Station, said necessary legal steps would be taken in this connection after having written allegation.

30 houses gutted in Rangamati

At least 30 houses were gutted in a fire that broke out in Tabalchhari BADC Colony of Rangamati sadar upazila on Monday night. Fire service sources said the fire originated from a candle in a house of the colony around 10pm and it engulfed the adjacent houses soon.

On information, a team of fire fighters rushed in and doused the flame after one and half hours of frantic efforts.

The loss in the fire is estimated around Tk 10 lakh, claimed the victims.

Man arrested with 2kg heroin

Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-5 arrested an alleged drug peddler with 2-kg and 100 grams of heroin from Alimnagar under Chapainawabganj Sadar upazila of the district on Monday night.

RAB sources said the alleged drug peddler is Fatik, 30, son of one Yahia of Goaltuli village under the same upazila.

Acting on secret information, an operation team of the RAB from Chapainawabganj camp raided Alimnagar around 9-30 pm and arrested Fatik with the heroin.

Later, he was handed over to the concerned police station.

Teacher’s body recovered

SIRAJGANJ: Police recovered a hanging body of a school teacher from Garadaha bridge area in Shahjadpur upazila on Tuesday, two days after he reportedly went missing, reports UNB.

The deceased was identified as Khandakar Nazrul Islam Babul, 52, son of Khandakar Nazabot Ali of Nolsondha village of Ullapara upazila and a teacher of Makorkola Government Primary School in Shahjadpur upazila.

Nazrul Islam reportedly remained missing since Sunday after leaving his school, said Goljar Hossain, sub-inspector of Shahjadpur Police Station.

On information, police recovered the body hanged with the railing of the bridge in the morning, the SI added.
