Bangladesh Archery Federation (BAF) took a big step to develop the national archers to a new height. BAF brought a high profile German coach Martin Frederick for a five year term to prepare the local players to flourish at international level.

Frederick, who arrived in the Bangladesh capital five days back, has prepared a three-tier development programme under BAF’s ‘Teer Go for Gold’ project. The federation signed a five year deal with CityGroup in October last year to go all out for the development of the games.

BAF general secretary Kazi Rajib Uddin Ahmed Chapal stated this at a press conference at the BOA auditorium yesterday in the capital. He expects that soon Bangladesh would get a positive result after implementing Martin’s vision. Asaduzzaman, executive director of CityGroup, speaking on the occasion said, “We would leave no stone unturned to make project success. You we have already accepted federation’s proposal to give all assistance to the German coach including his monthly salary $5,000. Even we would spend or give all necessary help to build a modern academy there,” said Asaduzzaman.

He said that his organistaion would set up necessary equipment at the gymnasium on the basis of a prescription filed by the coach. “Overall you will see a good environment there so the archers could carry out their activities smoothly.”

The 50-year-old German coach has already prepared a programme for the Bangladesh archers to fare better result in the 2020 Olympics and Asian Games. “I’m not predicting that Bangladesh will win a gold in Asian Games but definitely they will fight hard with the leading Asian archers who are also dominating the Olympics and World Archery Championship.”

“At the same time I want to see the Bangladesh archers improve their rankings in comparison to other nations in the region. Most likely Bangladesh archers do a better result in mixed team event rather than individually.”

Replying to a question he said, “ I find the local archers are very dedicated and hard working players. I think they are capable to bring laurel for the country.”
