Road crashes kill 5 in 2 dists

Cox’s Bazar, Habiganj Five people were killed in road accidents in Cox’s Bazar and Habiganj districts yesterday.

In Cox’s Bazar, three people were killed and two injured as a private car hit a roadside tree in Teknaf upazila here early Monday, reports UNB.

The deceased were identified as Mahbubur Alam Mabu, son Nur Alam of Jaiopara in Teknaf, Md Ismail, 32, son of Abdul Jalil Julu of Achhar Bania village and Helal Uddin, 28, of Moulovipara village in Teknaf.  The accident took place around 4 am when five friends were returning to Teknaf after visiting Cox’s Bazar sea beach, leaving three people dead on the spot and two others injured, said Officer-in-Charge of Teknaf Model Police Station Md Main Uddin Khan.

The injured were rushed to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital.

In Habiganj, two people were killed as a private car collided head-on with a tractor in Suraboi area under Shayestaganj upazila of the district yesterday morning, reports BSS.

The deceased were identified as MA Masud Halim, territory officer of British American Tobacco Company and car driver Mamun Ahamed, a resident of Jhenaidah district.

Officer-in-charge of Sayestaganj Highway Police Jasim Uddin said the accident occurred on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway when the two vehicles collided head-on at about 10.15 am, leaving the duo dead on the spot.

Police recovered the bodies and sent to the Zila Sadar hospital morgue.

2 held with fake Indian currency

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested two persons with 7, 08,000 fake Indian rupees conducting an overnight drive in a mango orchard at Satrashia village in Shibganj upazila of the district on Sunday.

The arrested persons were identified as Md. Ujjal, 28 and Md. Sujal, 24, the two siblings of Monakasha Housenagar village in Shibganj upazila.

RAB officials familiar with the drive said, acting on secret information, an operation team of elite anti-crime force raided the area at around 7.30 pm and arrested the siblings with the fake Indian ruppes.

Later the arrestees were handed over to Shibganj police station and a case was filed in this connection.

Minor hurt in Jessore bomb blast

Jessore:  A minor boy sustained burn injuries as a hand bomb exploded at Bhoberber village in Sharsha upazila of the district on Sunday, reports UNB.

 The injured was identified as Anik Hasan, 9, son of Imam Ali of the village. He was admitted to Jessore General Hospital. Victim’s father Imam Ali said Anik found an object by the rail tracks near their house around 10 am. Later, he started playing with it thinking it a toy. At one stage, the bomb exploded with a big bang, injuring him.

Ciminal arrested with arms

Members  of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested an alleged criminal from Char Ishwardia village in Mymensingh’s sadar upazila early yesterday.

The arrestee was identified as Md Asaduzzaman Jamal, 45, of Char Ishwardia. RAB also recovered a foreign made pistol and three rounds of bullets from his possession.

On information, a RAB team led by its operation officer Hafizul Islam Babu raided the house of Jamal around 3am and arrested him, RAB sources said.  He was handed over to Kotwali Police Station. A case was filed in this connection.

Gaibandha passport office earns revenue of Tk 10.30cr

GAIBANDHA: Regional Passport Office (RPO) here earned a good amount of revenue worth Taka 10.30 crore since its inception in December, 2014, issuing a total of 28,600 machine readable passport (MRP) to the clients in the region, reports BSS.

Assistant director (AD) of RPO here M. Mehedi Hasan said yesterday that the initiative of issuing more 1000 passport is also under process as fingerprints and photos with necessary documents are collected from the clients.

Processing and issuing of MRP had been expedited significantly after being digitized the passport office, he added.
