Networking confce on journalism held at RU

RAJSHAHI: A networking conference on journalism was held at Rajshahi University (RU) on Friday aiming to enhance the education quality of journalism students.

RU Mass Communication and Journalism Department (MCJ) and DW Akademie, one of the leading international media organisations in Germany, jointly organised the conference at the university senate building to enhance the relationship among the institutions connected to journalism field. The heads of journalism departments of twenty public and private universities of the country, academicians and students participated in the conference. RU Vice-chancellor Prof M Abdus Sobhan inaugurated the daylong conference as the chief guest.

RU Pro Vice-chancellor Professor Ananda Kumar Shaha and the head of DW Adademie for Asia and Europe regions addressed the session as special guests. RU MCJ department Chairman Associate Professor Pradip Kumar Panday presided over the meeting while Assistant Professor Naziat Hossain Choudhury conducted the conference. Addressing the inaugural session, RU VC Professor Abdus Sobhan said, "Journalism is a noble profession and to be a person having all the qualities of good journalist there is no alternative of training as through training one can get the chance of correcting himself." He also urged the students and journalists to keep them refrained from yellow journalism.

Freshers’ reception held

The freshers’ reception ceremony for the newly-enrolled students of Shanto-Mariam University of Creative Technology for Spring Semester was held amid a festive mood at Pallwell convention centre in the capital on Saturday.

Vice-chancellor Prof Kazi Md Mofizur Rahman presided over the programme. Among others, chairman of Board of Trustee of Shanto-Mariam University of Creative Technology Emanul Kabir Shanto, Prof Kazi Mofizur Rahman, treasurer Prof Shamsun Nahar and deans and teachers of different faculties were present on the occasion, a press release said.  Emanul Kabir Shanto told the freshers that they will play their roles in building Bangladesh which was he dream the father of the nation and the freedom fighters.  He said the university will offer the best education to the students amid a good environment.

A documentary on the university was displayed and a theme song was played on the occasion. Later a cultural programme was organised as well.

AIUB launches outcome based edn model

American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB) launched Outcome Based Education (OBE) model in Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) and Computer Engineering (COE) programmes in the Faculty of Engineering from the current 2017-18 Fall Semester, says a press release.

OBE is an educational process that is focused at achieving certain specified outcomes.

OBE is needed for future accreditation by Institution of Engineers Bangladesh (IEB) and ABET, USA and also to get recognition of AIUB engineering graduates by Washington Accord (WA) permanent member countries. The day-long launching workshop was opened by Prof Siddique Hossain, Dean of the faculty of engineering who explained the background, importance and gradual implementation plan of OBE.
