‘Criminal’ killed in ‘crossfire’

A criminal was killed in a gunfight while the police were conducting a drive to nab his gang members in Dhaka, only a few hours after he was arrested on Saturday. Nurul Islam alias Nuru, the criminal, was killed in Satarkul area of Badda in the capital early yesterday. He was arrested on Saturday after shooting a man called Badsha. Fish trader Kalim Sardar and his colleagues caught Nuru while he was trying to flee after killing Badsha. Kazi Wazed Ali, officer-in-charge of Badda police station, told The Independent that a police team conducted a drive with Nuru to catch his gang members. Unidentified criminals opened fire at the law enforcers as they approached their den in Satarkul area.

Nuru was injured during the gunfight and later died in the Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
