IU classes resume today

KUSHTIA: The regular classes and examinations of Islamic University (IU) will resume today after an 11-day winter vacation.

IU acting registrar SM Abdul Latif said both the academic and administrative activities of the university will resume on that day. The university remained closed since February 6 for the winter vacation.

Literature award ceremony held at SEU

Southeast University (SEU) organised a literature award giving ceremony-2017 on its campus at Tejgaon in the capital on Sunday, says a press release.

Vice-chancellor Prof ANM Meshquat Uddin presided over the event where Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor was present as the chief guest

Md Rezaul Karim, chairman, Board of Trustees, Southeast University Trust, was the guest of honour. Emeritus Professor Serajul Islam Choudhury and Fiction Writer Badrun Nahar received the Southest University Literature Award 2017. Emeritus Professor Dr. Anisuzzaman, and Professor Shamsuzzaman Khan, Director General of Bangla Academy were awarded lifetime achievement gold medal at the event. Later, a cultural event was organised where artists of the Southeast University Cultural Club performed.

‘Mehedi Utshab’ held at JU

SAVAR:  A daylong Mehedi Utshab was held on Wednesday on the  Jahangirnagar University (JU) campus.

Shadakalo Community Based Organisation, a group of transgender community, hosted the festival in front of JU Arts and Humanities Faculty marking the World Valentine's Day.

Dean of JU Arts and Humanities Faculty Prof Mozammel Hauqe inaugurated the event as the chief guest.

Professor Mozammel  thanked the transgender communities for hosting such event on the campus and said this type of programmes will raise awareness among the people and remove wrong perception about the transgender communities.

The transgender community offered Mehedi to the general students while the students of different departments spontaneously took part at the event.
