Two boys die after falling from bridge in Sylhet

Sylhet: Two boys died after falling from Keane bridge in the Surma River  on Wednesday night.

The identity of the deceased could not be known immediately, said Gausul Hossain, officer-in-charge of Kotwali Police Station. The boys might be taking rest on the railing of the bridge, he added.

Local people rescued them and took to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital where the duty doctor declared them dead, police said.

The victims’ age might be in between 12 to 14 years, said Sub-inspector Farooq Ahmad of hospital police outpost.

Praava Health signs MOU with Ahsania Mission

Man held with 3,000 yaba

Members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) have arrested an alleged drug traders along with some 3,000 yaba tablets from Cityhat Bypass area under Shah Makhdum Police Station in Rajshahi on Wednesday morning.

The arrestee was identified as Abdul Hamed, 40, of Shuknapara village in Chapainawabganj Sadar upazila, said a Rab press release.

Acting on a tip-off, a team of elite force from Mollahpara camp conducted a drive in the area around 9:30am and arrested Hamed along with the yaba pills.

US embassy to remain closed on Feb 18, 21

The US Embassy, including the Consular Section and the American Centre with the Archer K Blood American Centre Library and the Education USA Student Advising Centre, will remain closed on February 18 and 21.

The closure on the days announced on the occasion of ‘President’s Day’, a US national day, and ‘International Mother Language Day’, a Bangladeshi national day, respectively, said a US embassy press release

yesterday.

Emergency services for American citizens will be available during the closure. They were requested to call 5566-2000 and ask for the duty officer in any emergency, the release added.

Death anniv of Shaheed Sergeant Zahurul Haque observed

Bangladesh Air Force (BAF) today observed the 49th death anniversary of Shaheed Sergeant Zahurul Haque with due solemnity.

On this day in 1969, Sergeant Zahurul Haque was shot by the Pakistani Army when he was detained in the Dhaka Cantonment in connection with the Agartala conspiracy case, an ISPR release said.

On the occasion, a milad mahfil was arranged at the central mosque of Bangladesh Air Force Base Zahurul Haque after Zohr prayers seeking the divine blessing for the departed soul and also for the continued peace and prosperity of the country.

Assistant Chief of Air Staff (operations) Air Vice Marshal Masihuzzaman Serniabat, Air Officer Commanding of the base Air Commodore Murshed Hasan Siddiqui, senior officers, airmen and other members of the base attended the milad mahfil.
