Japanese industrialist meets DU VC

Tetsuro Iida, chairman of Japanese software firm Toyo System BD Limited, met Dhaka University (DU) vice-chancellor Prof Md Akhtaruzzaman at his office on Wednesday.

Dean of the Law Faculty at DU Prof Md Rahmat Ullah, vice-president of Mercantile Bank Limited Feroz Alam and former president of Bangladesh Chhatra League Bahadur Bepari were, among others, present at the meeting, said a DU press release.

During the meeting, they exchanged views regarding the overall development of Dhaka University. Tetsuro Iida expressed his willingness to provide employment opportunities at his software firm for the DU students who have already completed graduation from the Institute of Information Technology (IIT) of the university.  DU VC Prof Akhtaruzzaman thanked the guest for his interest in providing employment opportunities for DU IIT graduates.

Pitha utshab held at CU

CHITTAGONG: A day-long traditional Pitha Utshab (cake festival) was held in front of the institute of Education and Research of the Chittagong University yesterday.

The second batch of the institute along with teachers organised the festival while director of the institute MN Sahen Shah inaugurated the festival.

Associate Prof Abdus Salam, assistant Prof Md Zakir Hossain, Assistant Prof Souman Kishon Nath, Assistant Prof Md Moniruzzaman, Assistant Prof Hassan Tawfiq Imam, Lecturer Amiya Sultana and lecturer Rajib Ahmed Faisal were present in the inaugural session among others.  Thousands gathered on the college premises to celebrate the festival. Different stalls displayed more than 74 varieties of traditional winter pithas.

National science festival begins at JU today

SAVAR: A two-day science festival tilled, '2nd National Science Fest-2018' will begin at Jahangirnagar University today.

With the slogan, 'Be Innovative, Make Innovative', Jahangirnagar University Science Club (JUSC) is arranging the festival. JUSC president Shahriyar Kabir Shohag came up with the announcement at a press conference held at the office of Jahangirnagar University Journalists' Association on the campus in the afternoon. Chief Coordinator of Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Affairs at the Prime Minister's Office Abul Kalam Azad will inaugurate the festival at Zahir Raihan auditorium premises at 10.30 am today.

Shohag said a total of 10 universities, including public and private, 20 colleges and 30 schools will take part in the festival.
