3 Rohingya children die as boat sinks in Teknaf

UNB

At least three children were killed when a boat carrying Rohingyas from Myanmar capsized in the Bay of Bengal in Sabrang area of Tekhnaf yesterday morning, reports UNB. The boat with around 54 Rohingyas who were fleeing Myanmar to Bangladesh sank at Khurermukh around 4am, said Moinuddin Ahmed, officer-in-charge of Tekhnaf Police Station.

Although 51 managed to swim ashore, three children went missing, he said. Later, locals recovered the bodies and buried those at a local graveyard, the OC added.

Meanwhile, some 86 Rohingyas of 25 families, including the boat capsize survivors, entered Bangladesh through different points of Sabrang on Thursday, said Md Delwar Hossain, a representative of the district administration at Sabrang Relief Centre.

They were given shelter and relief at Nayapara Rohingya camp, he added.

"We'd been living a miserable life in captivity at our village without food and treatment. Some of our relatives have already died. So, we ran away from there," said Salma Khatun, a Rohingya woman.
