Form monitoring committees

President Abdul Hamid yesterday urged the private universities to constitute monitoring committees in their respective institutions to keep eyes on their teachers and students so that none can get involved in militancy or terrorism, reports UNB. The President, who is also the Chancellor of the universities, gave the directive while holding a views-exchange-meeting with vice-chancellors of the country's private universities at the Cabinet Hall of Bangabhaban in the evening.

Hamid said the country's image gets tarnished when teachers and students involve in religious fanaticism, President's Press Secretary Md Joynal Abedin quoted Hamid as saying. The President also directed the private universalities to shun their commercial attitude over education, provide international standard education, and prepare curricula accordingly so that students can prepare themselves for global competitions.

Expressing grave concern over the vacant posts of VCs and Treasurers in 23 universities, he directed the authorities concerned, especially the Education Ministry and University Grants Commission (UGC), to monitor the overall academic environment of those universities. Fifty-eight VCs, out of 95 private universities, and secretaries concerned to the President were present.
