National Library Day today

The National Library Day will be observed today for the first time across the country, reports UNB. A press conference was held yesterday in the conference room of the Public Library Department to brief journalists on the details of the day. A rally will be held in the morning from Shahbag which will parade important streets of Dhaka University campus and end at the Shaheed Minar while Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor will inaugurate the rally. Director General of Public Library department Ashish Kumar Sarkar said "The overall responsibility for the management, supervision and management of public libraries in the country is entrusted to the Public Library Department. There are 71 public government libraries all over the country that are administered by this department. So we will evaluate the activities on this day. "

2 killed in Khulna road accident

KHULNA: Two persons were killed in a road accident near Noapara Petrol Pump area under Tala upazila on Chuknagar-Satkhira highway yesterday. The deceased were identified as Mirazul Islam Bappy, 40, and Ataul Haque, 40. BM Emdadul Haque, in-charge of Chuknagar Highway Police Outpost, said  the accident occurred at around 1.10 pm yesterday when a Khulna-bound passengers' bus collided head-on with a motorcycle, leaving two motorcycle  riders dead on the spot.   Quoting eyewitnesses, police said the accident took place when the  passengers' bus overtook a truck which was parked on the highway.

SWAC celebrates anniv

Society for the Welfare of Autistic Children (SWAC) celebrated its 18th founding anniversary on Saturday at SWAC village (A dream project of SWAC) at Kabirpur (near BKSP), Savar, says a press release. Md Zakir Hossain, deputy managing director, Mercantile Bank Ltd, AKM Nurul Alam, additional managing director, Southeast Bank Ltd, were present as guests. SWAC teachers, officers, parents, students and members were also present the occasion. SWAC is the pioneer in autism care in Bangladesh working over 18 years (since 2000) for the development and rehabilitation of the children and adults with autism.

Air force chief leaves for Singapore

Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Abu Esrar left for Singapore yesterday on a seven-day official visit to attend the "6th Singapore Air Show 2018” accompanied by two entourage. During his visit, Air Chief will witness aerial display of different aircraft in the Air Show and visit pavilions.   He will also exchange views with chief of Singapore Air Force and other senior military and civil officials from different participating countries.  It is expected that the visit will play an important role for strengthening the existing friendly relationship between armed forces of two countries as well as planning for inducting new aircraft and technology in BAF.

 DMP files 1906 cases over traffic rule violation

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) lodged 1906 cases and realized Tk 10.47 lakh on Saturday on charges of traffic rule violations. It also dumped 785 vehicles and put wrecker in 262 others, said an official release. The cases were lodged on charges of using hydraulic horn, hooter, beckon light, black glasses and driving on wrong routes. Traffic department of police lodged the cases and realized the money from owners and drivers of different vehicles after conducting raids at different thana areas in the capital city on Saturday.
