Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized smuggled goods and drugs worth around Tk 85.82 crore carrying out anti-smuggling drives across the country, mostly bordering areas, in January this year, reports UNB. Sources at the BGB headquarters said the para-military force also arrested 107 people on charge of their alleged involvement in contraband items and drugs smugglings during the period between January 1 and January 31. Besides, the BGB seized two pistols, 10 rounds of bullets and four magazines during the period.
The BGB also arrested 76 Bangladeshis for illegally crossing Bangladesh borders, while 28 Indians were also arrested for illegally trespassing into Bangladesh territory during the period in January. Of the detained Indians, ten were handed over to local police stations, while 18 others were handed over to Indian Border Security Force, said BGB Headquarters Public Relation Officer Mohsin Reza.
