Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khanon Sunday said reckless driving and lack of skilled drivers are two of the reasons behind growing road accidents in the country, reports UNB. He made the remark while responding to a written question of Didarul Alam (Ctg-4) in Parliament. The Home Minister listed tendency of overtaking by breaking rules, driving without taking adequate rest, not obeying traffic rules properly, problems related to vehicles fitness and lack of awareness among pedestrians as other reasons that are contributing to road accidents.
Minister Asaduzzaman said some 9945 road accidents took place in the country from 2013 to April, 2017. The government has said it is determined to bring down the death toll and number of injures in road accident by 50 percent by the year 2020. "Being a signatory country for Sustainable Development Goals-2030 adopted by the United Nations, Bangladesh is committed to bringing down number of deaths and injuries by 50 percent by 2020,"Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader told the parliament recently.
