3 BNP men held with gunpowder in Chapainawabganj

Police in separate drives in Chapainawabganj and Manikganj held eight BNP leaders in last two days, reports UNB.

In Chapainawabganj: Police arrested three BNP and Juba Dal leaders allegedly along with 300-gram of gunpowder from Shatibagh of the district town early yesterday.

The arrestees are district unit BNP Vice-president Mobinur Rahman Miah, Sadar upazila unit General Secretary Aminul Islam and district Juba Dal member Ismail Hossain.

Being tipped that BNP leaders and activists were holding a clandestine meeting at the house of Mobin to plan acts of sabotage, a police team conducted a drive there around 4am, claimed Officer-in-charge (Investigation) of Sadar Police Station Atiqul Islam.

During the drive, the law enforcers arrested the trio along with the gunpowder, he said, adding that others managed to flee.

A case was filed in this regard.

In Manikganj, police arrested five BNP leaders, including joint general secretary of district unit BNP Motaleb Hossain from different parts of the district on Friday evening.

The four other arrestees are Golam Rafi Apu, former general secretary of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) district unit,

Mahbub Hasan, president of Harirampur Shechchashebak Dal unit, Sajib Hossain, joint general secretary of JCD district unit and Shahinur Rahman, vice-president of district unit Sechchashebak Dal.

Officer-in- charge of Manikganj Sadar Police Station Rakibuzzaman said the BNP men are being arrested concerning subversion.
