PM conveys AL decision on presidency to president

BSS

Prime Minister and ruling Awami League (AL) president Sheikh Hasina yesterday formally conveyed President M Abdul Hamid of her party's nomination to him to run the presidency for another term, reports BSS. "She formally handed over a formal letter containing the Awami League's decision to nominate him for the presidency as she called on him at Bangabhaban this evening," a spokesperson for the president said.

President's press secretary Joynal Abedin said the premier also greeted President Hamid with a bouquet while the president reciprocated to her gesture presenting her another bunch of flowers.

"It is me who will give you the bouquet today," an official familiar with the scene quoted a smiling Sheikh Hasina telling the president, who, he said, responded saying "it is the Bangabhaban ritual to greet you (PM) with the bouquet".

Sources told The Independent that the premier was accompanied by AL Gen Secy and Road Transport Minister Obaidul Quader, Law Minister Anisul Huq and Attorney General Mahbubey Alam to Bangabhaban.
