Sports Reporter, Ctg

Shakib Al Hasan was due to start the second stint of his captaincy career with the match but injury forced him to be a mere spectator. However that doesn’t mean, he would watch the game in front of the Television. He rather booked a flight in the morning of the first day’s game and came to the stadium and watched the day’s play from the VIP gallery.

Sunzamul’s debut, Razzak clueless

Left arm spinner Sunzamul Islam made his debut in the venue, in which he recorded the best bowling figure by a Bangladeshi bowler in the first class cricket (9-80). Abdur Razzak who also got nine wickets in an innings of the first class cricket twice but conceded more runs than Sunzamul, gave him the Test cap. And it brought a question to the fore—whether Razzak was called up in the team suddenly only to give the Test cap! It seemed to be funny, but hardly there was any logic of his inclusion in the squad all of a sudden, specially when the team management didn’t give him any nod for the final XI of the squad in the first Test.

Mominul’s animated celebration for Chandika!

When he reaches any milestone or century, his celebration remains muted always, just like his nature. But another side of Mominul was exposed on day one of the first Test against Sri Lanka when he hit consecutive boundaries of left arm spinner Lakshan Sandakan to reach his fifth century, a ton that came after 13 Tests and 23 innings. The kind of interval is not expected for the man who struck four centuries in only first 12 Test matches of his career. So anybody can wrongly interpret his celebration that he was pumped up, getting a century after a long time. But probably it was not correct. The way he ran towards like a sprinter showing his bat, meant other thing and he actually intentionally or unwillingly ran toward Sri Lankan dressing room in which his previous coach Chandika Hathurusingha was seating, instead of Bangladesh’s dressing room. Mominul actually lost the momentum of his career once Hathurusingha came as Bangladesh’s coach and dropped him from the ODI side, declaring that he is not good enough against short-pitched delivery. Than he discovered he has shortcomings against off-spin after he was dismissed by Dilruwan during Bangladesh’s Sri Lanka tour in 2017. Mominul got a century after Hathurusingha was resigned from the Bangladesh’s head coach and did a fitting reply by smashing spinners including Dilruwan Perera out of the park in his epic century. So the celebration meant a lot.

Mushfiqur’s 1,000 runs in Ctg

Mushfiqur Rahim became the first batsman to score 1,000 runs at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chittagong during the course of his 92 runs. He has hit one century and eight half-centuries at this very venue, what is actually home venue of opener Tamim Iqbal. However Tamim is second to Mushfiqur in this venue with 855 runs. Mushfiqur however had just 755 runs at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in which both Tamim and Shakib Al had already reached 1000 runs.

A better love story than twilight

The ZACS probably will be famous for its love affair with Mominul Haque. There are many instances that batsmen have some love affair with particular venue, such as Kumar Sangakkara, Mahela Jayawardene got Galle as their fort while Ricky Ponting had love affair with Melbourne. Four of Mominul’s five centuries came at ZACS, meaning he got the venue to his liking or the venue got him as its cherished son.
